Chris Mealin made the best of a difficult weekend at Silverstone to score valuable points towards his Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship title campaign last weekend (30th-31st May).
With qualifying so important not getting the best out of the setup can make all the difference and hurt the weekend from the start. This was certainly the case at Silverstone.
Mealin kept his calm and experienced a totally different weekend to the first two at Oulton Park and Rockingham, coming away with valuable points towards the Championship.
Starting in 15th place, Chris already had his work cut out. As the race got underway and whilst he was making progress moving up the field he went to make a move at Stowe. It looked like Chris had the move done until the other driver came across and the cars collided with the result of Chris losing his front wing but still managed to bring it home in 16th place.
Race 2 started in 16th on a wet track with a great start for Mealin pushing hard from starting at the back of the grid and getting up to 8th position by lap 1. About to take 7th through Brooklands and towards the end of the race, Mealin touched another race car and both ended up spinning which meant he came across the line in 16th and not a good reward after all the hard work the team had done to recover from a poor qualifying session.
Race 3 didn’t disappoint, with another great start from 17th Mealin drove through the pack carving his way up through the field, eventually to take the flag in 7th place. This was the highlight of the weekend.
Chris wanted to thank the team for all their hard work over the weekend and now looks forward to Snetterton on July 11th & 12th.
